Introduction to Tajweed

Tajweed (ุชุฌูˆูŠุฏ) literally means "to make better" or "to improve." In the context of Quran recitation, it refers to the set of rules that govern how the Quran should be recited, ensuring proper pronunciation of every letter with its rights and dues.

Why is Tajweed Important?

Religious Obligation

The Prophet Muhammad (รฏยทยบ) received the Quran from Angel Jibreel with specific rules of recitation. Learning and applying Tajweed is considered a form of worship and a way to preserve the Quran as it was revealed.

Avoiding Mistakes

Incorrect pronunciation can change the meaning of words in Arabic:

    1. ู‚ูŽู„ู’ุจ (qalb) means "heart"
    1. ูƒูŽู„ู’ุจ (kalb) means "dog"

A simple mistake in pronunciation can completely alter the meaning!
